Benapole (Jessore): Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a large number of smuggled Indian saris and three-pieces, some textile machineries and a statue of Buddha from Sadipur and Amrakhali frontiers in Sharsha upazila early Sunday.
The value of the seized items would be Tk1.34 crore, said BGB sources.
Lieutenant Colonel Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer of 26 BGB Battalion, said being tipped off that a large consignment of Indian goods was being smuggled into Bangladesh, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the two areas and recovered the contraband items in the early hours of Sunday.
Meanwhile, sensing the presence of BGB, the smugglers fled the scene.
The seized items were kept in the Customs storehouse.
A case was filed in this connection.
