Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said Jatiya Party cannot speak of waging a movement against the government while being part of it.
The minister came up with the remark as he was asked by reporters at the Secretariat to comment on media reports claiming that Jatiya Party ministers may quit the cabinet.
Obaidul Quader was talking to reporters after his meeting with UNDP senior adviser Aminul Islam.
The minister said he thinks Jatiya Party cannot openly speak in principle against the government and wage a movement against it while it is still part of the government.
If anyone wants to speak anything against the government, the issue should be raised in the forum of the alliance, he added.
Quader said if any party or individual wants to quit the alliance, it is completely their own matter.
Suggesting that Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad and other leaders might have made the remarks about quitting the alliance as part of a strategy, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister told reporters to wait and see what they speak in the future.
On September 1, The Daily Star published a news item about a meeting of Jatiya Party at Sangshad Bhaban where Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad and opposition leader Raushon Ershad agreed to a suggestion put forward by several Jatiya Party MPs that the party should quit the cabinet.
