Chittagong: Alleging that an undeclared Baksal rule is prevailing in the country, BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman on Monday said independence of the judiciary will diminish if the 16th constitution amendment bill is passed by parliament.
“There’ll be no independence of the judiciary with the passage of the 16th amendment bill. The judiciary will go under the control of unelected, illegal parliamentarians,” he told a workshop organized by Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum at a city hotel.
Noman further said, “An undeclared Baksal rule is already prevailing in the country. The government has politicized all the constitutional bodies.”
He also alleged that the government has robbed the freedom of speech of people by imposing a broadcast policy.
The workshop was held with Forum president Mohammad Musa in the chair.
