Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury will attend the World Assembly for Women in Tokyo, ‘WAW! Tokyo 2014’, said an official yesterday.
The three-day assembly, to be jointly hosted by four organizations -- Japanese government, KEIDANREN (Japan Business Federation), Nikkei Inc, and the Japan Institute of International Affairs -- will begin in Tokyo on Friday.
During Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s recent Dhaka visit, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina informed him about the Speaker’s participation in the event being supported by Japan Center for Economic Research.
The participants in this symposium will include political leaders, business leaders, and opinion leaders from several countries across the world, including Christine Lagarde, who is the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The issues to be discussed include the economic benefits achievable by promoting the active roles of women, diversity in working styles, the development of society, and the common issues relating to women throughout the world.
From these discussions, messages and ideas on how to further promote women’s active roles will be sent out from Tokyo to the world. Specifically, an open forum will be held on Friday, while a roundtable discussion among the participants from Japan and overseas will be held on Saturday.
