Chittagong: At least 12 people, including nine teachers of Chittagong University (CU), were injured as miscreants hurled bombs at a bus carrying them at Chhararkul in Hathazari upazila on Wednesday morning.
Shirin Akhter, a teacher of Management department, Fatama-tuz-Zahura of Sociology department, Ashrafuzzaman of Anthropology, Dr Sayeeda Halima of Chemistry, Sabrina Alam of Applied Physics, Sunanda Baidya and Sonam Akhter of Biochemistry departments and Amrithanath, a student of Account department are among the injured.
Witnesses said the incident took place around 10.00am when a group of young men, numbering 15-20, halted the bus carrying the teachers on their way to the campus from the city at Chhararkul and hurled brick chips and 5-6 crude bombs at the bus, leaving the 12 people, including nine teachers, injured.
Contacted, CU Proctor Siraj-ud-Dowla confirming the incident and said the injured teachers were first taken to the university medical centre and then shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. “Action will be taken against those involved in the attack,” he added.
The teachers who fell victims to the attack blamed Islami Chhatra Shibir activists for the incident.
