Magura: A man was chopped to death allegedly by his neighbors over a land-related dispute at Narayanpur village in Mohammadpur upazila on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Pangkaj Basu, 55, a resident of the village.
Matiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station, said there had been a longstanding dispute between Pangkaj and his neighbour Anwar Hossain over the ownership of a piece of land.
They went to arbitration but failed to resolve the dispute.
On the fateful night, Anwar and his men swooped on Pangkaj and chopped him with sharp weapons indiscriminately while he was returning home from Binodpur Bazar at about 10:00 pm, leaving him injured.
Critically injured, Pangkaj was rushed to Magura Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after sometime.
Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection.
