Housewife killed by ‘husband’

 A Correspondent Pabna: A housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband at Shoilpara in Ishwardi upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Sabina Yeasmin, 23, wife of Raihan Ali of the area. Police said Raihan Ali, 25, son of Zafar Ali of Shoilpara, had married Sabina Yeasmin, daughter of Saidar Pramanik of Titia Majhgram village in the upaizla four years back. Since then, Raihan used to torture her for dowry. On Friday morning, when Sabina refused to bring Tk 20,000 as dowry from her parents, Raihan beat her up mercilessly and strangulated her to death. Later, Raihan poured poison into the mouth of Sabina in a bid to probe the matter as suicide. Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Pabna Medical College Hospital. Police could not arrest anyone as Raihan along with his family members managed to flee. Meanwhile, a schoolteacher was killed in a road accident at Joynagar Boardghar in the upazila on Friday noon. The deceased was identified as Jahangir Alam,50, son of Shamsul Haque of Gopalpur Gormati area in Lalpur upazila of Natore district. Locals said the accident occurred when a bus hit Jahangir while he was crossing the Ishwardi-Kushita road at Joynagar Boardghar, leaving him dead on the spot.
