Kushtia: Three people, including a journalist, were injured in an attack by an alleged gang of robbers at Bakpole in Bheramara upazila on Saturday night.
The victims include district correspondent of private television channel Ntv, Faruk Ahmed Pinu,48, his cousin Monowar Hossain, 50, and neighbour Monirul Islam, 40, hailing from Gopalnagar village in the upazila.
Pinu said he along with his friend and a neighbour was going to Gopalnagar village from Bheramara town on a motorbike around 8.00pm.
When they reached Bakpole on Juniadaha regional road, their speeding motorcycle got entangled with a wire placed to block their way and they slipped off the vehicle.
Immediately afterwards, a gang of robbers numbering 8-10 caught the victims and took them to nearby rail line.
The robbers then beat up the victims, after tying them with rope.
After a while, the robbers left the spot, snatching the motorbike, three mobile phone sets, Tk30,000 cash and a gold ring from the victims.
Later, the victims, still tied, managed to crawl onto the road where a patrol team of police rescued them around 12.00am.
They, with injuries, were taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital.
Kushtia superintendent of police Proloy Chisim said police have already launched a drive to arrest the robbers.
