Munshiganj: A fire broke out at a paper mill owned by Bashundhara Group in Gazaria upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
Gazaria Police Station officer-in-charge Ferdous Hossain said the fire broke out at the factory of Bashundhara Paper Mills Ltd at Anarpur in the upazila around 10.00am.
The cause of the fire as well as the casualties could not be known immediately.
Five firefighting units from Daudkandi, Demra and Narayanganj stations of the Fire Service and Civil Defence are trying to control the fire.
An ambulance has also arrived at the spot from Daudkandi in Comilla for the rescue operation.
As the news spread around, several hundred people thronged the mill area adjacent to the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and tried to enter the mill to rescue the workers.
OC Ferdous Hossain said police did not let anyone enter the factory on security ground.
He also noted that several workers might have been injured while trying to douse the blaze.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
