Lightning kills 6 in 4 dists
Staff reporter In separate incidents, six people were killed in lightning strikes in Lalmonirhat, Satkhira, Joypurhat, Bagerhat and Rajshahi districts on Monday. In Lalmonirhat, lightning killed two people -- Malek, 43, at Lohakuchi village in Kaliganj upazila, and Rabeya, 37, in Panchagram village of Sadar upazila - in the morning. Locals said the thunderbolt struck Malek while working in his field while Rabeya while calling the cattle home. In Satkhira, lightning struck a college student - Mokhlesur Rahman, 27 - at Langaldaria village in Ashashuni upazila at noon, leaving him dead on the spot. Son of Abdur Rauf of the village, Mokhlesur was an honours final year student of Satkhira Govt College. In Joypurhat, Hafizar Rahman, 29, was killed as he was hit by a thunderbolt at Kuatpur village in bordering Panchbibi upazila in the morning. In Bagerhat, farmer Masud was killed in a lightning strike while working in his field at Natoikhali village in Sadar upazila at noon. Yet in another lightning strike in Rajshahi, sexagenarian Maleka Bgeum, 60, was killed in Tarapur Dighirpar village in Puthia upazila in the morning.
