Keraniganj: Four members of a family, including two children, were found dead at their residence in South Keraniganj upazila on the outskirts of the capital on Wednesday morning.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet. However, it was learnt that they hailed from Munshiganj district.
Being informed by locals, police recovered the bodies of the victims with their hands and legs tied up with ropes, from the 1st floor of a six-storied building at Abdullahpur Kadampur Kalakandi in the morning and sent those to Mitford Hospital for autopsy, said Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj Police Station.
Police assumed that the victims might include a couple and their two children.
Miscreants might have strangulated all the four victims to death 3/4 days ago and kept the door of the house locked from outside, the OC said.
Police detained caretaker of the house Sohel, 30, for interrogation.
During primary interrogation, Sohel said one Rafique along with another person rented the first-floor flat two months back.
Later, Rafique brought the couple along with their two children to the house identifying them as his uncle and aunt. All the six people used to live at the rented house since then, said Sohel.
On Wednesday morning, when Sohel went to the house to collect the house rent, he found that bad odour was coming out of the locked house.
Later, he along with neighbors stormed the house only to see the four lying dead.
Since the recovery of the bodies, Rafique and his associate remained fugitive.
A team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took some evidence from the spot.
Prima facie, it seemed that it was a planned killing and close relatives of the victims might have been involved in the incident, CID inspector Shah Alam said.
Hasina Begum, a resident of the building, said the flat used to remain under lock and key maximum time. The house inmates did not show any interest to contact the neighbors.
Kazi Maksuda Lima, acting assistant superintendent of police (South Keraniganj circle), said the law enforcement agency has started investigation into the killings and the motive behind the killing will be known soon.
