Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, now in South Korea, has said Bangladesh’s export to the East Asian country would increase in the coming days.
He said the South Korean government has agreed to increase its import from Bangladesh, apart from making fresh investment in Bangladesh and recruiting higher number of manpower.
The Commerce Minister made the remarks after a meeting with acting Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Jae-do held in Seoul on Wednesday, said a Commerce Ministry media release.
South Korea has invested in 72 business units in Bangladesh as the largest foreign investor.
Tofail Ahmed said he requested increase of import from Bangladesh and the South Korean side responded positively to his request.
South Korea’s exports to Bangladesh totaled US$ 1199.2 million against its imports worth US$ 344.81 million in the last fiscal year with a huge trade gap of US$ 854.39 million in favour of Seoul.
Bangladesh Ambassador in Seoul Enamul Kabir and Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) Maj Gen M Habibur Rahman Khan were present.
