Terming illegal the current Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal committee a group of rebel leaders and activists of the BNP’s labor wing announced a counter full-fledged committee on Wednesday.
The existing committee was formed in May through a council. At a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club, the dissident Sramik Dal men announced a fresh 201-member committee of their organization making Nazim Uddin and Abul Khayar Khaza its president and general secretary.
Khaza said the previously-formed Sramik Dal committee was illegal as what he said it was launched by a few leaders allegedly in exchange of money.
Meanwhile, current Sramik Dal president Anwar Hossain said Nazim and Khaza have no jurisdiction to announce any committee of the BNP’s associate body. “This is an illegal committee as it was not formed following the due process and rules.”
On May 5, Khaleda Zia approved the 201-member Sramik Dal committee with Anwar Hossain and Nurul Islam Khan Nasim as president and general secretary of it.
The committee was announced through a media release signed by BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman 20 days after its National Council held in the city.
Party insiders said the rift in the Sramik Dal may cause trouble for BNP as the party gears up for launching an anti-government movement after Eid-ul-Azha to press for a fresh election under a non-party administration.
