World Tourism Day observed
Staff Reporter The World Tourism Day was observed in the country on Saturday as elsewhere across the globe. The theme of this year’s day was ‘Tourism and Community Development’. The theme focused on the ability of tourism to empower people and provide them with skills to achieve change in their local communities. Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), different tour operators and other organizations arranged various programs to mark the day. BTB brought out a colorful rally in the city on the occasion. Starting from Matsya Bhaban around 8:30am, the rally paraded important city streets and terminated at Dhaka University’s TSC. Inaugurating the rally, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said the government is working with an aim to expand tourism across the country. Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion. Observing that the country’s tourism industry has huge potentials, the President in his message urged all concerned to work together for the development of the sector. In her message, the Prime Minister called upon the private entrepreneurs to come forward alongside the government to create opportunities for engaging local communities more in running the tourism industry.
