Sharitpur: A freedom fighter was chopped to death in an attack by a group of miscreants in Jajira upazila on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam Madbor, 60, a resident of Messer Munshi Kandi village.
The attackers also hacked the victim’s brother Jasim Madbor during the incident.
Police and locals said the miscreants attacked Nurul and Jasim on their way to Sharitpur district town when they chopped off the right hand and leg of Nurul and hindered their way for about one and a half hours after injuring them.
Later, on information police rescued the victims and sent them to Jajira Upazila Health Complex where Nurul succumbed to his injuries around 11.45 am.
Locals said Daud Khan, who had been at loggerheads with his brother Yousuf Khan for land, attacked Nurul Islam for helping his brother in a land-related case.
Officer-in-Charge of Jajira Police Station Ikram Ali Miah said three people were arrested in connection with the incident.
Police are also trying to arrest the main accused, he added.
