Grameenphone Limited on Tuesday announced the winner of its ‘GP Digital Winner’ apps competition.
Tanvir Hassan Sourov, Founder and CEO of Kaaktaruaa, was selected as the winner of the competition for his Kaaktarua’s LIVE TV app. With this app, users can stream 1800 free TV channels broadcast from 153 countries all over the world on a relatively fast internet connection.
The app has had worldwide downloads of nearly 76000, despite being available only on a Windows 8 and Windows platform. The LIVE TV app faced stiff competition but was finally chosen for ease of use, creativity, uniqueness and scalability.
Nine app developers, pre-selected by Startup Dhaka through an open recruitment process, showcased their products and presented about their ambitions for the future. Applications ranging from games and reference materials to Bangla keyboard apps were presented during the competition.
Pleased with the range of entries in the competition, Erlend Prestgard, Strategy & PMO, Grameenphone, who was one of the judges, said he thought that the potential for apps development was incredible in Bangladesh given the wide talent pool. “Our objective with this competition is to jump start this development by recognizing local talent and showcasing them on a global platform,” he added.
The ‘GP Digital Winners’ competition was an app competition jointly organised by Grameenphone, Startup Dhaka and Telenor Digital. The lucky winner will represent Bangladesh at the Telenor Digital Winners’ “Best App in Asia” competition in Oslo on Oct 21-22.
