Cabinet okays Trade Mark Amend Bill

The cabinet on Monday approved the draft of the 'Trade Mark (Amendment) Bill, 2014' seeking to extend the timeframe of disposing of trade mark-related disputes to 360 working days from 120 days as stated in the exist-ing law.
The approval was given at the weekly meeting of the cabinet held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Mister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed reporters.
He said the cabinet gave nod to the amendment proposal to make the timeframe realistic as trade mark-related disputes are disposed through seven stages.
Before finalizing the draft, the Cabinet Secretary said, the Industries Ministry consulted the stakeholders.
The cabinet was also apprised about the third quarterly report on the implementation of its decisions as a total of 33 decisions out of 55 were implemented.
He said the implementation rate during the first three months was 51.35 percent, while 55.93 percent in then second quarter and 60.00 percent in the third quarter.
The cabinet was informed about the participation of a Bangladesh delegation in the 69th UN General Assembly meeting, headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from September22-28.
It was also informed about Jordan visit by the Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister from Au-gust24 to 28, and participation of the Cultural Affairs Minister in the Edinburgh International Culture Summit, 2014 in the United Kingdom from August 10-12, and in the International Conference on Intercultural and Inter-faith at Saint Petersburg, Russia from 2-4 July.
Ministers and State Ministers and secretaries concerned were present at the meeting.
