The newly formed committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student body of BNP, on Wednesday vowed to make the supreme sacrifice to ‘restore people’s voting rights and democracy’ in the country.
“We’re ready to make the supreme sacrifice to restore the annihilated democracy and the basic rights of all people, including franchise, by waging a movement in Dhaka University and all other educational institutions,” said its president Rajib Ahsan.
The new JCD chief expressed the resolve while talking to reporters at BNP’s Naya Paltan central office. The new committee also exchanged greetings with journalists.
Earlier on Tuesday night, a 201-member ‘partial’ JCD committee was announced dissolving the earlier one.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia approved the committee formed with Rajib Ahsan as its president and Akramul Hasan as general secretary.
Mentioning that the country is passing through a critical juncture, Rajib said they will work hard to get rid of it imbued with the spirit of the 90s anti-autocracy movement.
He sought support from other student bodies in ensuring a congenial atmosphere in educational institutions and healthy student politics.
Rajib said the new committee was formed giving priority to young leadership as per the direction of BNP sen-ior vice chairman (Tarique Rahman). “So, we’ll try to wage an educational institution-based movement. Hope, the ongoing movement will yield positive outcomes.” JCD new secretary Akramul Hasan and some other of-fice-bearers of the fresh committee were present.
