50 hurt in Sylhet clash

Sylhet: At least 50 people were injured in a clash between auto-rickshaw workers and bus workers at Dakkhin Surma upazila central bus terminal in the city on Saturday.
Twenty busses and 24 auto-rickshaws were also vandalised and an auto- rickshaw was torched during the clash.
Sub inspector Shafiqul Islam Khan, officer-in-charge of Kadamtali Police camp, said when a brick chip was hurled at a bus from a procession of CNG auto rickshaw drivers in the area around 1:30pm, bus workers got furious and chased the auto-rickshaw workers, triggering a clash.
Both the groups equipped with sticks and bricks swooped on each other that left 50 people, including pedestrians. injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and lobbed several rounds of teargas shells and fired 29 rounds of rubber bullets to control the situation.
Additional police were deployed in the area to avoid further trouble.
