Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Saturday alleged that BNP being politically ‘bankrupt’ is doing politics over a dead body and religion.
“BNP has been able to realize that it has lost the ground beneath its feet after being politically bankrupt and involving itself in the politics of dead body,” he said.
Hanif came up with the views while addressing a discussion marking the 50th birthday of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, organised by Awami Swechchasebak League at road No. 32 Dhanmondi in the city.
Posing a question to BNP, the Awami League leader said on what logical basis they pressed for taking the deceased Professor Piyash Karim’s body to Central Shaheed Minar. He said Shaheed Minar is a well-respected place for all, it is not for the displaying any dead body.
Awami Swechchasebak League general secretary Pankaj Devnath, among others, spoke at the programme, held with its vice-president Nirmal Ranjan Guha in the chair.
