Customs intelligence officials arrested a man in possession of 64 gold bars worth Tk3.75 crore at Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Saturday.
The arrestee was identified as Abdul Latif, 37, hailing from Satkania in Chittagong district.
Umme Nahida, assistant director, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, said Abdul Latif came from Dubai by a flight of Emirates Airlines ‘EK-582’ around 8:30am.
On suspicion, customs intelligence officials searched the body and belongings of Abdul Latif and found 64 gold bars weighing 7.5 kg inside three packets of ‘Benson’ brand cigarettes.
They arrested Latif and recovered the gold bars.
The market value of the seized gold is Tk3.75 crore.
