Sylhet: A court here on Sunday sentenced a man to life term and another to 10 years’ imprisonment in separate cases for possessing phensidyl.
Sylhet special sessions judge Mainul Islam handed down the verdicts of the two cases under the Narcotics Control Act 1990.
Faruq Ahmed, 27, son of Abdun Nur of Loharmahal village in Jakiganj upazila, was sentenced to life term imprisonment in for possessing 30 bottles of phensidyl, whereas Islam Uddin, 24, son of Abdur Rahman of Baligram village of the same upazila was sentenced for 10 years’ imprisonment for possessing 20 bottles of phensidyl.
According to case records, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-9 on a tip-off conducted a drive in Kalighat area of Sylhet city and arrested Faruk along with 30 bottles of phensidyl on December 5, 2012.
Later, police submitted the charge sheet against him on January 7, 2013.
Islam Uddin was arrested along with 20 bottles of phensidyl by a team of police at Muhitpur village in Jakiganj upazila on February 18, 2012.
