Exports to Germany, UK, Italy rise

Country’s exports to key destinations like Germany, UK and Italy posted a modest growth in the first quarter (July-Sept) of the current fiscal year (2014-15) compared to the same period of the last fiscal (2013-14).
During the July-September of fiscal 2014-15, exports to Germany totaled $ 1312.29 million, which was 17.05 percent of total export earnings for the three-month period.
Of the amount, knitwear accounted for $ 741.14 million, woven garments $ 445.49 million and frozen shrimp $ 25.00 million, according to the latest figures provided by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The EPB figures show the total exports to the UK during the July-September period as $ 763.47 million, which was 9.92 percent of the total export earnings for the period.
The export of RMG items to the UK accounted for $ 684.51 million in July-September of 2014-15, a growth of 4.94 percent over $ 652.30 million during the same period of the previous fiscal (2013-14). The home textile export to the UK during the period was $ 15.56 million, frozen shrimp $ 18.04 million and bicycles $ 23.29 million.
The country's exports to France during the period increased to $ 373.81 million, which accounted for 4.86 percent of the total export earnings for the three-month period.
The RMG exports to France, however, declined to $ 344.15 million in July-September of the fiscal 2014-15 as against $ 351.21 million during the same period of the previous fiscal (2013-14), showing a 2.01 percent fall.
The exports to Italy totaled $ 323.88 million in this July-September period with knitwear fetching $ 189.17 million, woven garment $ 96.88 million, and leather, leather goods and footwear $ 27.63 million. The exports to Belgium amounted to $ 293.12 million for the period that included knitwear $ 117.42 million, woven garment $ 101.00 million and frozen shrimp $ 47.17 million.
Export earnings from the USA, the largest market for Bangladesh goods, totaled $ 1343.13 million, which was 17.45 percent of the total export earnings for the period.
The Netherlands, another big export destination for Bangladesh, imported goods worth $ 220.81 million during the July-September period. The amount included knitwear $ 91.92 million, woven garment $ 59.63 million and frozen shrimp $ 40.59 million.
Among the Middle East, Far East and South Asian countries, exports to Japan totaled $ 230.72 million, Singapore $ 28.57 million and China $ 199.71 million.
Among the South Asian countries, exports to India amounted to $ 143.95 million during the three-month period that included jute and jute made goods $ 18.93 million and woven garment $ 28.36 million while exports to Australia totaled $ 145.35 million, including $ 48.81 million from woven garments and $ 77.94 million from knitwear.
