State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday said the motive behind the killing of Rajshahi University Prof AKM Shafiul Islam will be unearthed in two to three days.
“Our intelligence agencies are working to debunk the motive behind the killing of the RU teacher and you’ll know it soon,” said the state minister while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday.
Replying to a question Asaduzzaman said, “It’s not clear yet whether it’s a political murder or not, but our detectives are working to unfold the motive and identify the killers.”
Responding to a question about ‘Ansar Al Islam Bangladesh’ who claimed responsibility for the murder on a Facebook post, the minister said, “We have no information about any such group.”
AKM Shafiul Islam, 40, a professor of Sociology Department Rajshahi University, was stabbed to death by some miscreants at Chouddapai near the campus in the city on Saturday.
Asked about the arrival of Indian Intelligence team, the junior minister said, “I’ve heard a four-member team of National Investigation Agency of India (NIA) arrives here on Monday.”
“We’ll share information over the recent bomb blast at Burdwan in West Bengal and discuss everything openly relating to their investigation,” he said.
The NIA team will hold a meeting with Bangladesh intelligence agencies secretaries and police, he added.
