Sylhet: An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was stabbed in an attack by his rivals in Pathantula area of the city on Saturday night.
The victim was identified as Rubel Miah, 22, son of Sayeed Ullah, a resident of Nikunja-18 of the city’s Madina Market area.
Witnesses said there was a longstanding rivalry between the Darshandeuri group and Kashmir group of BCL over establishing supremacy in the area.
Men of Darshandeuri group attacked Rubel Miah, supporter of Kashmir group, in the area while he was entering a hotel in Madina Market area for taking meal at about 10:30 pm.
To protect himself, Rubel ran into a private hospital in Pathantula area.
But the attackers came to the hospital and chopped Rubel indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured.
Rubel got his one finger cut off as the attackers hacked him.
He was first rushed to Ragib Rabeya Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
