2 detained over AL leader Faruk killing

Tangail: Members of Detective Branch (DB) of police detained two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for quizzing in the Tangail district Awami League leader Faruk Ahmed killing case on Saturday night.
A team of DB police arrested MA Rouf, secretary of Red Crescent Society and former general secretary of the district unit BCL, from Nirala More area in the district town at about 8:30 pm.
Besides, the law enforcers arrested another BCL leader Faruk Hossain Manik, also former vice-chairman of sadar upazila, from a bus in Ashekpur area of the district town, by which he was returning home from Dhaka at about 11:45 am.
However, the two detainees were later freed around 11.00am on Sunday after quizzing them about the killing of the AL leader, said Mahfizar Rahman, officer-in-charge of DB.
Faruk Ahmed's bullet-ridden body was found on 18 January 2013 on a road near his house at Collegepara.
His wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case in this connection three days later.
She did not name anyone in the case.
Investigations were taken up by the local police station and later handed over to the district detective police.
