BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday urged all to get united against killers of democracy.
“We all must get united to thwart conspiracies by the evil forces of democracy killers,” she said in a message issued on the occasion of Shaheed Dr Milon Day commemorating his 24th death anniversary.
On November 27, 1990, the cadres of then autocratic ruler HM Ershad gunned down Dr Milon, the then joint secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association, on Dhaka University campus.
Different socio-political and cultural organizations have chalked out elaborate programs to observe the day.
Khaleda alleged that the one-party rule, reestablished by killing democracy through the Januaray-5 ‘voter-less’ election, has also blocked the path of progress of multiparty democracy.
Mentioning that Dr Milon embraced martyrdom to save democracy from the shackle of autocratic rule, she said his sacrifice will be successful if democracy gets a strong footing.
“He (Milon) is our source of inspiration in the struggle and movement against all authoritarian and autocratic and anti-democracy forces.”
Khaleda, also a former Prime Minister, prayed for salvation of the departed soul of Milon.
