78 receive facial surgeries in Sylhet
Staff Reporter Some 78 patients living near Chevron’s Jalalabad gas-plant - mostly children - received life-changing surgeries to correct cleft-lip, cleft-palate and other facial deformities in a move to mark the end of Rotaplast International’s mission to Sylhet. Chevron Bangladesh sponsored the 10-day mission in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Jalalabad and Sylhet Women’s Medical College & Hospital that concluded recently. Appreciating Rotaplast for the mission, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Shahidul Islam said the children born with cleft-palate deformities will now get a chance to live normal lives made possible by Chevron’s generous contribution. He thanked Rotary Club of Jalalabad and Sylhet Women’s Medical College & Hospital for their efforts to arrange the medical camp. Principal of Sylhet Women’s Medical College & Hospital, Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Country Coordinator of the mission, the Rotary Club’ s Past District Governor (PDG) Dr. Monzurul Haque Chowdhury, Chevron Bangladesh External Affairs Director, Naser Ahmed, and Co-Founder and Medical Director of Rotaplast International, Angelo Capozzi, M.D also spoke on the occasion.
