Daud Merchant placed on remand
Staff reporter A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Abdur Rauf Daud Merchant, an Indian goon and an associate of mafia don Daud Ibrahim, on a three-day remand in a case filed under section 54. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nuru Mia passed the remand order rejecting his bail petition submitted by his lawyer Mohammad Hemayet Uddin Khan Hiron. Earlier, Mohammad Golam Rasul, a DB sub-inspector and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before court seeking a seven-day remand for him. A DB team rearrested Daud Merchant, a resident of Sharifa Road in Mumbai, India, from the city’s Khilgaon intersection on Tuesday afternoon. He was later shown arrested in the case filed under section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. In 2009, Bangladesh police arrested him for intruding into the country without valid documents. He remained in jail since then. Later, in 2012, he secured bail from the court.
