Staff reporter Qatar has proposed to open an office in Bangladesh to boost its export, especially urea fertilizer, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and petrochemical products. Qatar Ambassador in Dhaka Abdullah Abdul Aziz Al Mana came up with the proposal when he met Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at the latter’s office on Monday. The envoy said new investment will come for Bangladesh’s industrialization apart from boosting bilateral trade if the office is opened. They discussed various bilateral issues, including enhancing cooperation for smoother industrialization in Bangladesh. Mentioning Qatar as an important development partner, Amu said Bangladesh wants to boost bilateral trade and investment in the coming days. He urged the Qatar Ambassador to encourage his country’s investors to invest in prospective areas of Bangladesh. In response to a proposal for opening its office, the Industries Minister urged the envoy to give Qatar government’s representative formally. “We’ll consider the proposal positively.”
