Terrorist killed in ‘gunfight’ with cops
A Correspondent Laxmipur: An alleged member of a terrorist gang was killed in a gunfight between police and his associates at Latifpur village under Chandraganj thana in Sadar upazila on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Rony,27, a member of notorious terrorist gang ‘Jisan Bahini’ in the area and son of Makbul Hossain. Three police constables-- Mohammad Ali, Ibrahim Sheikh and Projeskanti Deb Nath --were also injured during the gunfight. Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Chandraganj Police Station, said a team of police launched a drive in the area to arrest Solaiman Uddin Jisan, leader of the terrorist gang, around 11.00pm. Sensing the presence of the police, Jisan and his associates opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight. Jisan’s associate Rony was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while Jisan and other members of the gang managed to escape. Police also recovered one pistol and 12 rounds of bullet from the spot. Jisan is wanted in several cases, including for murder, extortion, robbery and kidnap, the SP added. However, on the other hand, district Jubo Dal president Rezaul Karim Liton claimed police had arrested Rony, who belonged to their organization, from Contractor Bridge area under Chandraganj thana in the afternoon.
