Govt wants a modern armed force: FM

Staff Reporter Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has said that the government has a vision for shaping the Armed Forces as modern and professional to help the forces perform better. “Already our government has taken several pragmatic steps for the development of Armed Forces; their armaments, training and capacity building and also for the welfare of the members of the Armed Forces,” he said, addressing the passing-out dinner at the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) on Saturday. The Foreign Minister said Bangladesh Army is recognized worldwide as a disciplined force for its notable contribution in UN Peace Keeping Mission and other assignments. “Our supreme sacrifices in the UN missions have only emboldened us to remain committed to the UN cause,” he said. Mahmood Ali said Army has also earned recognition for its role in responding to various national calamities such as during cyclone SIDR and Rana Plaza rescue operation, “In course of your interaction with the civil administration, you are expected to perform even better through your acquired professional excellence,” he added. The Foreign Minister told the cadets that they should be able to read the faces and minds of their subordinates to be able to understand and lead them properly. “You must also focus on creating an impression of righteous and positive personality among your subordinates right from the beginning. You should be able to set personal examples to influence them,” he said. Mahmood Ali also said that the cadets should be mentally ready to face the challenges in the future. “Bangladesh is marching forward with ever greater successes and achievements. The prospect of our army is equally on the rise both in national and international arena.”
