Three robbers nabbed after ‘gunfight’

A Correspondent Satkhira: Police arrested three suspected members of a robber gang after a ‘gunfight’ with them at Choigharia on the Satkhira-Jessore highway in Sadar upazila early Monday. The arresteed were identified as Ishaq Ali Gazi, son of Momin Gazi, a resident of Garerkanda village, Faruk Hossain alias Pichchi Faruk, son of Firoz Gazi, a resident of Chhatiantala village in Sadar upazila; and Mizanur Rahman Gazi, son of Ahmed Ali Gazi, a resident of Dhopadanga village in Debhata upazila. The district's police information officer and sub-inspector Kamal said on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 2:30 am when the gang of robbers was taking preparation for a robbery on the highway. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers hurled some crude bombs towards them. In retaliation, police opened fire, triggering a gunfight that left one of the gang injured. Later, police arrested three robbers including the injured from the spot while their other associates managed to escape. The injured, identified as Faruk Hossain alias Picchi Faruk, was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital under police custody. Police also recovered some crude bombs, iron rods and sharp weapons from the spot.
