500 BNP-Jamaat men sued in Ctg
A Correspondent Chittagong: Two separate cases have been field against 500 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami in connection with Monday’s violence in the port city. Mahiuddin Selim, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said police filed a case against some 300 people, including 85 identified and 215 unidentified BNP-Jamaat men, on Monday night on charges of attacking police, carrying out vandalism and arson attacks on Monday night. Amir Khasru, president of city unit BNP, its general secretary Dr Sahadat Hossain, Aslam Chowdhury, convener of North district unit BNP, Enamul Haque Enam, vice-president of South district unit BNP were among the accused. Of them, 260 people, including Aslam Chowdhury and Enamul Haque, were shown arrested in the case. Besides, Chakbazar thana police filed a case against some 200 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat under Explosives Act. Earlier, , 30 people, including some cops and reporters, were injured as the alliance men clashed with the law enforcers at Nur Ahmed road Monday afternoon. Some 300 leaders and activists of BNP including North district BNP convener Aslam Chowdhury and South district unit vice-president Enamul Haque Enam, were detained from different places of the city in the evening. Police also recovered 15 petrol bombs from under a truck which was being used as the podium of the rally.
