A Correspondent Gaibandha: A man was killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over occupying a beel (water body) at Nandisahar village in Palashbari upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 40. Mofazzal Hossain, superintendent of Gaibandha district police, said two influential clans -- Haider of Challish Ghar and Shahjahan of Atgharia -- had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of Nandisahar Beel. The clash erupted when the supporters of Shahjahan equipped with lethal weapons went to the disputed beel for catching fish in the morning. At one stage, both groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving one killed and 15 others injured. Later, the supporters of Haider vandalised 13 houses in the area. Additional policemen and members of Rapid Action Battalion have been deployed in the area to avoid further trouble.
